About the Project

Evolugen is developing the 200 MW Thunder Mountain wind project, to be located approximately 30 km southeast of Tumbler Ridge in northeastern British Columbia (BC) in the Peace River Regional District. The Project leverages the region’s mountainous terrain, which offers a very strong unidirectional wind resource with average wind speeds around 8m/s.

The Project is currently in the development stage, with construction not scheduled to commence until 2028 at the earliest, pending obtaining an Electricity Purchase Agreement (EPA) with BC Hydro.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

Evolugen is dedicated to being a good steward of the environment by protecting, preserving and enhancing natural ecosystems and biodiversity in the development, operation and decommissioning of our facilities. The Thunder Mountain Project will:

  • Generate clean renewable energy to power more than 76,000 BC homes annually
  • Avoid the creation of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Create a minimal land footprint
  • Harness the region’s strong unidirectional wind resource

Evolugen is committed to building trust and maintaining strong relationships in the communities where we live and work. We engage proactively with communities and stakeholders during the planning and design of our projects, and once operational, we ensure that our company is giving back to the community. Recognizing the Project is located within the Treaty 8 territory, we are committed to creating economic opportunities for the local First Nations. The Thunder Mountain Project will:

  • Create over 200 jobs during peak construction
  • Create up to 8 long-term jobs for operations and maintenance
  • Provide contract opportunities for local businesses and suppliers
  • Seek Indigenous equity partnerships

In addition to working cooperatively with communities, through our Community Investment Program, we support local projects, programs and organizations that enhance community development and quality of life, education, and environmental stewardship.

ECONOMIC BENEFITS

Evolugen recognizes its facilities have contributed to the prosperity of local communities and the importance of maintaining this contribution. The Thunder Mountain Project strengthens the economy by:

  • Making direct property tax payments to the Peace River Regional District for its lifetime (30 years)
  • Investing more than $500 million between the power purchase agreement award and commencing commercial operations
  • Investing $1.5 million over the past 10 years
